Fifth Avenue Building’s Failing Facade

The Fifth Avenue Building (1400 SW 5th Ave.) east façade terracotta panels began buckling around the fourth floor on Tuesday. The initial reports stated that the ten-story building in downtown Portland was in danger of collapsing. Later reports that day stated that no structural damage was found. website data says the building construction was completed in 1951. The building’s most recent renovation was in 2002. The website also notes that the façade is made of aluminum, granite, and terracotta.
