Avoiding the “Black Friday” madness
28 November 2008 at 11:55 PT by Bryan DorrToday is Black Friday. Today is the day that many holiday shoppers line up at the stores to get in on the early deals. I don’t plan on participating in the Black Friday madness.
This morning it was cloudy outside and the thermometer read 50 degrees Fahrenheit. I rode my bicycle 14.8-mile on the Springwater Trail to the Steel Bridge and back.
The ride was like any other Springwater Trail ride I have done.
A cyclist on the floating bridge rode over a fallen bike reflector, causing it to shatter and sending shrapnel flying all over the place. Some of the pieces missed my face by inches. No harm done.
The lone blue heron painted on the Portland Memorial Mausoleum along Oaks Bottom got some company. A couple of new murals of eagles and other birds now accompany the heron. I thought the murals turned out pretty spectacular.
On December 5-7, and December 12-14, 2008, there will be heavy pedestrian congestion on the Springwater Trail at Oaks Bottom. The Southern Pacific 4449 steam locomotive will be chugging along the bike path for the annual Holiday Express train ride.
