Closed Road Makes for Faster Commute

SE Tenino St. viaduct in Portland, Oregon.

Delayed highway reopening on northbound SE McLoughlin between SE Tacoma St. and SE Harold St. in southeast Portland clogged the street for the morning rush hour.

On SE 32nd Ave in Milwaukie, cars backed up six blocks. I got around it, as well as the congestion on SE Tacoma St. for the traffic heading over the Sellwood Bridge. Not to worry I deal with getting around the “free parking” that occasionally clogs SE McLoughlin Blvd. SE McLoughlin had very little traffic between SE Harold and the Hawthorne Bridge where Ore. 99E turns into SE Grand Ave. The Hawhorne Bridge, normally packed, had very little traffic as a result of the closure. From there to Hillsboro, the drive was smooth sailing.

For a typical Wednesday commute of 50 minutes, today’s commute took only 35 minutes, the same time as it for a Saturday commute.
