Fixing the Bridge Rail

This is an image of a couple of bridge maintenance workers in a maintenance basket, doing repair work on the pedestrian/bike path railing. I’m not sure what events took place that led up to having to repair the railing on the Hawthorne Bridge.

I actually saw this incident. I was driving across the Hawthorne yesterday evening, coming back from a routine run, and suddenly I heard a loud scraping, banging noise behind me in the outside lane. I looked back and saw that a taxi had somehow run entirely up onto the sidewalk, and its front bumper was all torn up. I'm assuming it skidded on the wet metal grate of the bridge deck, but I didn't see that part. I guess it must have damaged the bridge railing in the process. At least they didn't go off the bridge, or hit any pedestrians or bikes.

If I'd been in that taxi, I don't think I'd have wanted to pay for a ride quite that exciting.

That's a pretty deep curb to get a taxi up and over onto the walkway.
